1. Bayswater, 8.45 am

It’s a grey and rainy Monday morning in London, and I’m trying to get my bearings.  Am staying in a small “boutique” hotel, not far from Paddington station, and the room, while not uncomfortable, is tiny. Reminds me of the Hudson Hotel in New York - lots of dark wood, high gloss fixtures, and not a square inch to spare.

Have embarked on this trip sans laptop, relying solely on my iPad and iTouch for connectivity.  Which seems to be working reasonably well, except that I forgot to pack the wireless keyboard for the iPad in my carry-on.  Argh.  Still, the reduction in weight is much appreciated.

The Tube is on strike today, which means that I’ll be sticking to the West End.  Plan to check out Portobello Road Market in Notting Hill, which I missed the last time I was here.  Wander around the area south of Hyde Park.  Need to plan out my itinerary for the rest of the week.  Had a mental list in my head of things I wanted to do here, and of course it now completely escapes me.

Anyway, need to pull myself together and head out.  Time to take on the day.
